Unless this is the first time ever that you are reading theIndian Journal of Cancer, you would have noticed that there is a difference in the font and layout of the articles.

Yes, the journal has undergone this change and we hope that the new style is more pleasing to the eye and is easier to read as well. We look forward to readers' thoughts on the matter.

This issue contains, apart from the usual sections - editorials, letters and case reports - the first article in a series on evidence-based gross pathology, which we hope, will result in pathologists writing better and complete reports, for the diagnostic and therapeutic benefit of their patients. (This series is the result of a discussion that one of us (SAP) had with the Emeritus Editor, Dr AM Borges in 1992!).

We also hope to hear from readers and critics of articles published in recent issues of the journal. What were your thoughts on reading the articles? Do you disagree with some finding? Or is your experience and data similar to that published? Do you have suggestions or comments? Do submit your views in the form of a letter to the editor. Remember, we need debate - not didactic deliberations - to stimulate intellectual growth.

Web browsers would also have noted that many of our articles now appear online ahead of print, so that it reduces the grief of waiting to see ones paper in print. These papers have a DOI and are on Medline and can be circulated and quoted even before the issue is actually online or printed. We hope and expect, that over the coming year, we can drastically reduce the waiting period to even see the paper online ahead of print.

Our old problem of difficulty in getting enthusiastic referees remains. We reiterate that it is not quite cricket to be able to find the time to perform research and publish it but be short of time to review someone elses research work. For those who are new to the world of refereeing and to some who review papers, but need to improve their skills, this issue of the Journal offers some pertinent advice. We hope you find the suggestions useful.

With best wishes for 2020,

Sanjay A Pai

Vinay Deshmane
